The Louisiana Thoracic Society originated as the medical arm of the Louisiana Tuberculosis Association and held large scientific and clinical meetings throughout the state. Topics at the 1961 meeting with 200 physicians and students in attendance included "Valsalva Maneuver", "Early Detection of Pulmonary Emphysema" and "Surgical Potentialities in the Wheezing or Emphysematous Patient".
